Bruce hardwood floors, produced by Armstrong Corporation, come in to basic types: Bruce Dura-Luster floors and Bruce Dura-Satin floors. They have different maintenance and care requirements. The Luster variety is a no-wax product with a factory finish while the Satin type is best sealed and shielded by wax. Proper maintenance will help to prolong the lifespan of your elegant wood floors. Follow these easy steps on how to care for them.
1. Before it fixes on the surface of the floor, take out any extra adhesive from the hardwood floor’s surface that may have been left after it has been installed. This is made easier with the use of an adhesive remover applied to a clean dry cloth, and wipe the smeared part to remove the adhesive. The Bruce brand offers this kind of product.
2. With the unwanted adhesive removed, clean the wood floor using hardwood and laminate floor cleaner, which you can also buy from Armstrong Corporation. Tip some cleaner into a pail and spread it using a damp, not sopping wet, mop. Wash out the cleaner from the mop, then mop the floor to eliminate the remaining cleaner from the floor.
3. Clear the wood floor from dirt and dust by sweeping or vacuuming it weekly. If you use a vacuum cleaner, make sure that it does not have a beater bar that may damage the floor. Do this step as often as necessary depending on the foot traffic received by the floor.
4. Get rid of mud and spills right away using the cleaner which you will use to remove the excess adhesive. Do not let spills remain on the wood floor for extended periods to prevent staining and other forms of damage to the floor’s surface.
5. For scratches and other indications of damage on the floor’s surface, use a touch-up kit which has fillers and stains that can match your hardwood floor. The Bruce brand also carries this sort of product.
1. Seal your Bruce hardwood floor and shield it from water by applying paste wax right after it has been installed. Armstrong Corporation offers two shades of Bruce paste wax: the light and the dark. Choose whichever is appropriate for your floor. Wipe the wax onto the surface with a clean rag.
2. Get rid of dirt and dust by vacuuming or sweeping the floor every week. As with Dura-Luster, avoid vacuums with a beater bar to prevent damage to the wood floor.
3. Wipe or mop spills immediately using a dry cloth or mop to avoid staining.
4. Re-apply wax on the wood floor twice or thrice in a year. Waxing hits two birds in one stone: it can boost the appearance of wood and it protects the floor from moisture and UV rays. So if your notice that your floor is losing that shine, it may be time for you to rewax.
5. Between wax applications, buff the floor to bring back the shine. You can rent a floor buffer; choose one that has a bristle brush attachment to achieve better results.
