Wetness is the number one item that should not be included in the list of items used when cleaning carpets. This is because it is a hospitable breeding ground for molds and mildew. Also known as steam cleaning or warm water extraction, this method is hailed by most carpet manufacturers and carpet fiber producers as the best approach to carpet cleaning especially for the residential type because it deeply cleans and does not leave a wet carpet afterwards. Typically, a truck- or van-mounted carpet cleaning machine is the main weapon in our carpet cleaners’ arsenal. The cleaning process starts with spraying a hot carpet cleaning solution to the carpet naps to loosen dirt embedded in the carpet. Then using the pressure and heat produced by the high-powered machine, dirt is effectively removed. Rinsing follows to get rid of sticky residue. The rinsing solution used is carpet-friendly. Then the carpet naps are brushed in one direction to dry it quickly, leaving it clean and looking like new.
For hard to reach places, like carpets in high rise buildings, a portable hot water extraction unit may be used. However, it is not expected to deliver the same high-powered capacity that the truck-mounted version generates.
Another method deemed one of the best in cleaning carpets is dry cleaning. It uses virtually zero amount of water. It does not leave a soapy residue where dirt can stick and accumulate. Our carpet cleaners start this technique by applying dry absorbent powder mixed with very little water on stained areas of the carpet. This powder is deliberately disturbed using a brush. After a while, it is vacuumed and cleaned. The minimal water used in the absorbent compound is used to dissolve dirt while the absorbent component is used to soak up the dislodged dirt. With dirt absorbed by the compound, it is then thoroughly vacuumed up. Since minimal water is used, virtually no drying is necessary. For this reason, it is a favorite method for carpet maintenance and works well for business offices or establishments.
