If you are attempting to make this repair yourself you must be prepared to settle for a less than perfect result. Keep this in mind unless you have some experience doing this repair from past repairs.
Step 1: Sand down the damaged area by hand sanding or using a random orbital sander for a small area. You may or may not remove all of the damaged area. (I don’t recommend using bleach as some people may have suggested.) The next step depends on whether or not the floor needs to be stained.
Step 2a: If the floor has a natural finish and no stain then apply finish to the sanded areaa. Let it dry and you are done.
